About the maker

Hi, I'm Brittney, owner of Cottage Kitsch. I live in Portland with my husband and five year old son. I'm glad to have you here!

I grew up in a small town in Washington state, with a mom who was always crafting. Our dining table was constantly full of projects- painting, paper card projects and hand sewing. Machine sewing never drew me in, and I actually avoided it most of my teen and young adult life! I never liked any of the outdated patterns that I saw in big box sewing stores. That all changed during the pandemic, and like most people, I decided to take on a new hobby.

It started with masks, then Christmas gifts of pajama pants and stockings. Then I discovered the world of small independent garment patterns. As a very petite woman, it's always been hard to get a perfect fit, and sewing my own clothes allowed me to tailor my fit and choose patterns and styles that really felt like me.

This past holiday season, I decided to sign up for a couple of craft markets. I started making pillows with Pendleton wood, key fobs, dog collars and stockings. I really enjoyed creating items for other people to enjoy.

I made my first bags this year too! After I made my first one, I just couldn't stop. I like to create bags with functional designs, patterns with character, and materials that last. I use independent pattern designers and utilize many local & small businesses for my materials.
